Description
Sodium metabisulfite is used as an active ingredient in campden tablets, as a cleaning agent for potable water reverse osmosis membranes, as a preservative and an antioxidant in food. It also acts as a corrosion inhibitor in oil and gas industry, as a bleaching agent in the production of coconut cream, as the source of sulfur dioxide and in the destruction of cyanide in commercial gold cyanidation processes. It is utilized in the precipitation of gold from auric acid as well as in the waste water treatment to remove hexavaent chromium as trivalent chromium by precipitation after reduction. Further, it is used in photography. In addition, it plays as an oxygen scavenger to eliminate the dissolved oxygen in wastewater and in pipes.

AnwendungenNatriummetabisulfit wird als Wirkstoff in Campden-Tabletten, als Reinigungsmittel für Trinkwasser-Umkehrosmosemembranen, als Konservierungsmittel und als Antioxidans in Lebensmitteln verwendet. Es wirkt auch als Korrosionshemmer in der Öl- und Gasindustrie, als Bleichmittel bei der Herstellung von Kokosnusscreme, als Quelle von Schwefeldioxid und bei der Zerstörung von Cyanid in kommerziellen Goldcyanidierungsverfahren. Es wird sowohl bei der Fällung von Gold aus Aurinsäure als auch in der Abwasserbehandlung verwendet, um sechswertiges Chrom als dreiwertiges Chrom durch Fällung nach Reduktion zu entfernen. Darüber hinaus wird es in der Fotografie verwendet. Desweiteren spielt es eine Rolle als Sauerstoff-Scavenger zur Beseitigung von gelöstem Sauerstoff im Abwasser und in Rohren.
Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Ethanol und Glycerin.
Hinweise
Feuchtigkeits- und luftempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln und starken Säuren.
