Description

Iodoform is use as a disinfectant. It is an active ingredient of ear powder along with other constituents like zinc oxide and propanoic acid, which prevent infection and facilitate the removal of ear hair in dogs and cats. In analytical chemistry, it is involved in the determination of iodoform in drinking water as well as to remove heavy metals like mercury from fluids. It plays an important role in the fermentation of bio mass. It is also used in root canal therapy for infected primary teeth.

Anwendungen
Iodoform wird als Desinfektionsmittel verwendet. Es ist zusammen mit anderen Bestandteilen wie Zinkoxid und Propionsäure ein aktiver Bestandteil von Ohrpulver, das Infektionen verhindert und die Entfernung von Ohrhaaren bei Hunden und Katzen erleichtert. In der analytischen Chemie ist es an der Bestimmung von Iodoform im Trinkwasser beteiligt und entfernt Schwermetalle wie Quecksilber aus Flüssigkeiten. Es spielt überdies eine wichtige Rolle bei der Fermentation von Biomasse. Es wird auch in der Wurzelkanaltherapie für infizierte Primärzähne verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Ether, Essigsäure, Ethanol, Chloroform, Glycerin, Kohlenstoffdisulfid, Olivenöl, Benzol und Aceton. Schwer löslich in Petrolether.

Hinweise
Lichtempfindlich. Unverträglich mit starken Basen, Alkalimetallen, starken Oxidationsmitteln und Magnesium.
